Straight men are starting to come out of the grimy caves in which they have lived for millennia; at least, that is according to the 13% surge in the male skin-care sector. Men are taking a different approach to how they view their morning grooming routine and marketers are catching on.

It was not too long ago that men were ridiculed for buying, let alone, using, skin care products. Now, men are crying in public, exfoliating their faces, and even comparing moisturizers without so much as an air of disapproval.

The Art of Shaving

The homosexuals among us have been doing this forever, and they are ageless, but with this recent surge in hetero sales, we may have a completely new breed of man on the horizon.

The key to getting a man’s man to become a bit more metro is to keep the price-points low, lure him in under the guise of “before and after shaving” products, warm scents, and manly packaging.

This opens up a whole new world for hairstylist: few and fewer men will be sauntering into salons with two simple demands, “a little off the top and lower my ears.” Offering “for men”-focused stylists, products, and services will open up a wholly new revenue stream for the service-based beauty industry.

The key to getting a man’s man to become a bit more metro is to keep the price-points low, lure him in under the guise of “before and after shaving” products, warm scents, and manly packaging.

More stylists need to learn the art of shaving and the culture of heterosexual men to capitalize on this growing market. Get your pens out, learn a bit about what makes a man feel like a man, but also how you—the stylist— can offer a metro-touch to his manly existence.

Some options that will appeal to a man’s sensibility include: The Art of Shaving’s unscented pre-shave oil, which offers a pleasant, all-natural, clove and cedar noted shave—oh, and it protects his manly skin against razor burn. Top off his shave with sprits of Frédéric Malle’s Bois D’Orage, which mixes deep luxurious notes of pimento and galbanum with angelica, iris, cedarwood and vetiver.

Not only will he leave your chair with his masculinity intact, his softer side will pleasantly surprise his girlfriend.
